Submental fullness, or fat beneath the chin, can be caused by several reasons. Genetics, aging, as well as weight gain all can contribute to submental fullness.  Even with diet and exercise, submental fat may not go away.

How does Kybella work?

Dr. Atkins injects Kybella into the fat beneath the chin. The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring chemical in the body that helps breakdown fat cells during digestion. During the appointment, the physician will administer a series of injections in the submental fat beneath the chin. The body’s metabolism then naturally processes these treated fat cells. The entire treatment will take 15 – 20 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on a patient’s existing conditions and desired visible contouring of their chin/submental profiles. Some patients require 2 to 4 treatments, while others may require up to 6 to see results. Treatment may end once you reach your desirable look.

Is there downtime?

The first session commonly requires some minimal downtime. Keep your social plans and work commitments in mind as you schedule treatments.

Will I experience any side effects?

As with most injectable treatments, the most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, as well as minor hardness in the treatment area.
